Job Description:
We are looking for a seasoned Director-level manager with strongtechnical expertise and excellent leadership ability to manage a teamof software engineers and architects working on multiple projectswithin our product development department. The ideal candidate willlead the identification of new technologies and practices in theindustry and bring them to bear against the many challenges of afast-growing, hi-tech company building products ranging from rich-mediahandheld applications to Web 2.0 tools and large-scale data systems.

Responsibilities of Director of Engineering:
Building and retaining productive teams through strong recruitment, mentoring and career management
Leading a department of software developers and architects, establishing development practices and standards
Collaborating with a team of peers to sustain effectiveness within a growing mid-sized environment
Engaging and challenging requirements while designingsolutions based on deep technical knowledge of web, client and databasearchitectures
Setting high level design objectives; reviewing and critiquing software designs proposed by architects
Requirements of Director of Engineering:
BS in Computer Science or equivalent
Extremely strong Computer Science fundamentals and analytical abilities
Several years of experience leading a department of 10+ persons, managing practices, careers and recruitment
5+ years of previous experience as a Software or Data Systems Architect
5+ years of hands-on experience designing, delivering and supporting large scale applications and/or data systems
Strong SQL and data modeling skills, as well as significant real-world experience with commercial RDMBSs
Expertise in several programming languages such as Java, C++ or C# as well as OO design
Ability to quickly establish credibility with skilled developers and architects
Taste for simplicity and elegance in technical design
Bonus Points:
Experience with agile software development values and practices, especially Scrum
Experience with Data Analytics, ETL best practices and tools for enterprise data integration
Taste for scripting languages such as Python or Ruby
